Winnipeg is and has been home to a number of prominent names, from actors and sports stars to academics and diplomats. Below is just a partial list
Susan Auch - 5 time Olympic speed skater (Silver medal 1998 & 1994, Bronze medal 1988). The city honoured Susan by renaming the Sargent Park Oval after her.
Ashleigh Banfield - Court TV anchor, formerly with MSNBC, for whom she reported from New York on September 11, 2001. Noted for her square-rimmed eyeglasses.
Cordell Barker - Oscar Nominated and award winning Animator
Frances Bay - Character actress most noted for her role as the grandmother in "Happy Gilmore" and as Mabel Choate in "Seinfeld"
Jennifer Botterill - Forward with Canada’s Olympic and World Champion Women’s Hockey Team.
Lenny Breau - Legendary Jazz guitarist. Born in the USA, Lenny came to Winnipeg with his family as a teenager.
Len Cariou - Tony Award winning Actor (Sweeney Todd) who has made frequent appearances on a number of Television shows (notably in the recurring role of Michael Haggerty on Murder She Wrote)
Ted Corday - Producer of American Soap Operas Guiding Light and As The World Turns and Creator/Producer of Days of Our Lives
Deanna Durbin - "Winnipeg’s Sweetheart" - Once the highest paid female actress in the world. Made over 20 movies for Universal in the 30’s and 40’s before retiring to France. Was the favorite movie star of both Anne Frank and Winston Churchill.
Brendan Fehr - Actor (Michael Guerin - Roswell, Dan Cooper -CSI Miami)
Terry Fox - Cancer victim and amputee whose 3339 mile "Marathon of Hope" raised awareness of, and millions of dollars for, cancer research. The cross-country run tragically ended in Northern Ontario (less than 500 miles from his home town) 143 days after it began at the Atlantic Coast in Newfoundland, when it was discovered that the cancer had returned and spread to his lungs. The annual Terry Fox Run, held across Canada, continues to raise millions annually for Cancer research.

Joanna Gleason - Tony award winning actress and daughter of Monty Hall. Her film roles include Woody Allen’s wife in Crimes and Misdemeanors, Mr. Holland’s Opus, Boogie Nights and The Wedding Planner. On television she has appeared on ER, The Practice, Friends, and in the recurring role of Jordan Kendall on The West Wing
The Guess Who - The first Canadian rock group to have a #1 hit in the USA (American Woman).
Monty Hall - Best known as the Creator and host of the classic game show Let’s Make A Deal.

Doug Henning - Flamboyant, Emmy-nominated Magician and Illusionist.
Clara Hughes - 5 time Olympic medalist. A cyclist and speed skater Clara is the first Canadian woman to win medals at both Summer and Winter Olympics and the only Olympian to win multiple medals at both Summer and Winter Games.
Chris Jericho - WWE champion wrestler, rock musician, actor and radio host.
Cindy Klassen - Speed skater, Twice named Canada’s Female Athlete of the Year, 2006 Athlete of the Year and Canada’s all-time most decorated Olympian (6 medals) Her 5 medal performance (1 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze) at Turin earned her the title of the "woman of the games" from the IOC President. Sargent Park Recreation Complex was renamed in her honour following the 2006 Olympics.

Carol Shields - Pulitzer and Orange Prize winning author. Her best known works were The Stone Diaries, which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1995 and was nominated for the Booker Prize in 1993 and Larry’s Party which won the Orange Prize, National Book Critics Circle Award and the Prix de Livre in 1998.
